I'd say it was kind of bait-y, but their interactions are very natural and they freely express affection with one another. Sorey and Mikleo's relationship is one of the most important in the game, though, and there is little doubt about how much they love each other. (One could argue Alisha was a potential love interest but she literally drops out of the story and party barely 1/4 into the game.) He was raised in a very non-human culture away from civilization as a whole, so Sorey is definitely shown to be a bit out of the norm for a human. Sorey also has no female romantic interest in the game which is pretty different from the past modern Tales games where there was at least some pretty damn obvious couple, and he doesn't show much interest in women in general. Sorey and Mikleo are childhood friends, know each other better than anybody else, are each other's most important person, says the other's name when they die in battle, Sorey reads dumb poems to Mikleo, thinks Mikleo is a beautiful babe.Mikleo acts jealous a few times. The way they frame Sorey and Mikleo's relationship is similar to how other Tales games frame the protagonist and romantic interest's relationship, though.
